Make Your Dinner Party A Royal Feast

Decorating the Table

If you've watched enough Jamie Oliver episodes to try and throw a dinner party, then now’s the time to give it a go. Hosting a dinner party is a great way to spend time with friends and family and if you’re feeling intimidated by a lack of space or cooking skills - don’t! Our tips will help you to make your dinner party a royal feast.

Candles help to set an ambience for a party. To make the table look attractive get a selection of candles in differing heights to add depth.

If you prefer flowers head to the local market to grab a few bunches of what’s in season. Find different size jars to add depth and a talking point to your dinner table.

Table runners add a nice touch of contrast to your table’s colours. If you’re crafty you can even make them yourself. Lay the runner down the centre of the table and arrange your candles or vases along it.

If you’ve chosen to have a themed dinner party decorate with appropriate centre pieces or little keepsakes relevant to the theme. For example if you’re having a 1920’s dinner party, look up which flowers were popular then and make those your centre piece for the evening. You could even play music that is relevant to the theme.

Time Savers

On the night of your dinner party you’ll want to spend your time with your guests and not in the kitchen. Here are a few timesaver tips for just that:

Plan a familiar menu – if you’ve already prepared the dishes ahead of time you can eliminate unwanted surprises and a great deal of stress.

A simple vegetable soup is a good example of a starter that can be prepared ahead of time and reheated before serving, which is light and healthy. For a delicious main course consider cooking a herb-roasted meat joint that you can prepare beforehand by rubbing the meat with herbs and spices and putting it in the oven in time for it to be ready when you’re ready to serve the main course.

Side dishes like a parmesan polenta can be made up to a day before and reheated when it’s time to serve or place your chosen vegetables in a steamer in time to serve with the meat. Salads can be prepared earlier too. Desserts like cakes can be prepared the day before.

Shop the day before – this way you’ll get what you need without feeling pressurised and you’re less likely to have to run back to the shop just before guests arrive.

Set the table early – set your table with your dining table a while before your guests arrive. You can take your time decorating it and deciding on place settings and your guests will feel comfortable knowing that they have a place set and waiting for them.

Setting the Mood

Once your guests arrive you’ll want them to feel comfortable and well fed! To begin with, offer them something to drink like a signature cocktail (prepared earlier of course!). If you plan on serving snacks put them in the oven a few minutes before your guests are due to arrive so that they’re ready just as people get there. Have some mood-setting music playing in the background too. Choose tunes that are light and won’t make conversation difficult.

Once everyone has arrived and your starter has been warmed up you can ask your guests to take their places at the table for an evening of good food and good company.

Today we take nuts for granted. The Greeks and Romans considered walnuts an aphrodisiac and food for gods. Nuts were used as currency for trading with English ships in the Mediterranean. That's why the walnut is called the English walnut. Almonds were excavated in the Holy Land and are one of the earliest cultivated foods. Arabians made the famous marzipan almond paste and it was brought back with Crusaders when they returned home. Spanish colonist collected thousands of Brazil nuts when introduced to them by Dutch traders to sustain the troops in North America. Peanuts probably got their bad reputation as food for the poor when it was harvested by and fed to Spanish and Portuguese slaves. But the demand for peanut oil, peanut butter, and peanuts made them popular again.

Entertaining friends and family is one of the true joys of life. When we gather with those we care about, we are reminded of why we work through the bad parts of life. All of us need to feel connected to our fellow human beings in some way, which is why we always find joy in gathering together.

While there are many ways to host a gathering, and many places it can be done, one of the best things to have in your home is a well-stocked bar. Not only are home bars a great place to store your own beverages (both alcoholic, and non alcoholic), but they make a great place to host planned and impromptu gatherings. The home bar is more than just a place to store and serve beverages, when it is done right it can act as one of the centers of your social life.

Food is a generic part of life, and it is a necessity since it is a main source of energy and nutrition. This alone should give you an idea of how important and indispensable food is to the public, and as a businessman, how lucrative it is to invest in a related service or product. Everyone wants to eat something. And everyone has different tastes. So in spite being saturated with options, there is still room in the food industry for anyone who is bold enough to try his luck. The question that remains now is how you start of this intent. Some people would assume that investing money in someone who has the talent would ensure them of payback. While others take a more conservative route and franchise instead. But there are those who are smart enough to give themselves the opportunity to hold power and keep it when exploring money-making opportunities in the industry. And they do so by becoming chefs themselves.

Typically cupcakes are simple to make requiring a small amount of ingredients and not a lot of preparation time. It’s when it comes to the decoration that things get a little more complex and time consuming.

In the lead-up to Christmas and the New Year cupcake businesses are being flooded with requests for novelty cupcakes. With cupcakes in the shape of Rudolph and his slightly less famous reindeer counterparts, the majority of which are sculpted from fondant, it is one of the busiest times for any cupcake maker.

For a romantic candlelight dinner, nothing expresses luxury and elegance better than a medium-rare cooked filet mignon with béarnaise sauce. Although the filet mignon might seem easy to cook, it actually requires a lot of attention as it can burn easily and become over-cooked, which would dry up the meat juice and lose its signature melty and tender taste.

Some of the combinations sound outrageous when you look at them individually, however the potent spicy, sweet and sour ingredients combine to make spectacular dishes that makes Thai food famous for what it is. Our understanding of coffee has changed since the introduction of specialist coffee shops. “However it comes” is no longer an acceptable response when asked how we like our morning pick me up. Take Notes

The first step in becoming a wine guru is by taking notes of how the wine smells, tastes, and feels. Rather you're a frequent wine tester or you're just starting your journey it is crucial to take notes of the particular wine that you taste. Wine bars in Houston, and all over the globe for that matter have people from all different skill ranges that meet together to discuss their favorite wines and try new ones. It is important to welcome new wine tasters with open arms and never be too judgmental of their opinions and level of knowledge. Always be sure to take note of how the wine made you feel, the strength, and how easily it goes down. This will give you a base in the future to understand the wine in greater detail and properly rank a low quality wine and a high quality wine from past experience.
