Whether you want to offer an event with style or you’re just looking to spice up your next family dinner, a dessert buffet means something amazing every time you set one up. It’s the perfect combination of visual aesthetics and entertainment, and it’s easily one of the trendiest choices of the last five years. Not sure exactly how to get started? It just takes a bit of set up and some amazing food.
Decide on a Theme
It’s usually best if you start with a theme or at least an idea of something you’d like to recreate. This can be as simple as deciding you’d like to go with the colors black and white or as complex as coming up with something like “Carnival” as your theme. It doesn’t have to be anything too intricate, but the more complicated it gets, the more exciting it might be for your guests.Pick Your Desserts
When you know where to go with your buffet, it’s time to start planning exactly what desserts you’ll want on it. Most guides will tell you to go with about 8 – 10 different dessert options for your guests, and it’s nice to choose a mix of finger food style desserts and more complicated options. Cupcakes, handmade candies, cookies, brownies, large fortune cookies and other yummy treats are all excellent choices. Carefully think about how much you’ll want to serve. For 16 people, for instance, you’d need at least 160 pastries and three pots of coffee, so plan your guest list before you ever start thinking about exactly what you want to serve.Setting the Stage for Sweets
In addition to coming up with a theme and deciding on what you’d like to serve, you also need to consider how you’re going to display those desserts on your table. A nice mix of high and low is usually a good idea, and depending on your theme, you can always get cake stands and other serving plates to achieve that. Often it’s fun to use options like apothecary jars for candies and cookies to help add an element of fun. Almost anything is a choice as you select the right container, so don’t hesitate to be a little creative. You may want to draw a map of how you want to set your table so you get some sense of what to do. You can often do this by looking at the space, then adding sticky notes to each dish you’ll be using. Feel free to move them here and there so you know it looks exactly the way you want it to.
Dessert Buffet Decor
Decorating is your final step. While you may not think a dessert table can really use that much décor, don’t hesitate to get creative here. You can do all kinds of exciting things like tying ribbon to the base of your cake plate, choosing colored paper to line the actual serving dishes, and adding a gorgeous tablecloth that really helps to tie things together. Many even overlook the backdrop, but you’ll probably want to do something very creative to help set the mood a bit more. If you like, use wallpaper backed by cardboard for a pretty, removable choice that is certain to fit your theme.About The Author:
