It is that time of year again; Christmas songs playing in every shop, decorations going up, excitable children with endless Christmas lists and carol singers at the door but despite Christmas being many peoples favourite time of the year there is no doubting that it can also be a stressful time.

There is a lot of organising to be done from visiting family and friends to having visitors, preparing dinner and buying gifts. Sometimes buying gifts can be easy if you are lucky enough to know exactly what someone wants but there is always one or two that can be very hard to buy for.

One suggestion for you this year is a nice bottle of whisky. If your intended gift recipient is a whisky drinker you know the present will be appreciated and not wasted but how do you know what whisky to buy?

With such a large choice it can be tricky to select one so finding out the persons favourite whiskies can help you to either choose one of those or select one that they might like to try.
We will show you 5 great choices of Scotch whisky below and cover different budgets so you can give someone the gift they actually want this year.

Springbank 1919 - 50 Year Old

At the top end of the budget at £50,000.00 is the 50 year old Springbank 1919. If you happen to be lucky enough you can buy one of the rarest malts ever created. With only 24 bottles of this whisky bottled in 1970 this is not only a whisky but a piece of history and could actually be an investment.

The majority of us go to restaurants for the quality of the food, maybe for a romantic evening or just to sample the atmosphere and enjoy a little sip of wine. If the establishment does not meet expectations then we may whine a little more. How about you turn up to a restaurant to find its not what you imagined it too be? Themed establishments are becoming more popular as they provide something a little different to the norm. How would your partner feel if they were to dine in one of the weird establishments listed.

Is Vertigo on the Menu?

You’re sure to have a thrilling evening sampling what the tantalizing menu covers sitting at a table hoisted 50 meters into the sky? This restaurant has been developed for events or VIP occasions. It seats 22 people and can turn around 350 diners in a single evening and is often booked for weddings, events or for personal parties. If vertigo is on your menu then this place covers your all of your needs.

This Restaurant is Toilet

Literally this place is toilet! A restaurant named Marton in Taiwan has a bathroom based theme with toilet seats to sit on and enjoy your meal with the tables consisting of bath tubs covered with glass. It is claimed that the prices are low and food as good as most other establishments, one thing is for sure the loo is never too far away!

How about being served by Dancing Robots?

The initial impression is that the Hajime robot restaurant is no different to a typical Japanese restaurant with cubicles located within the Monopoly Park plaza in Bangkok. When the restaurant speakers burst into tune the metal mickeys maraud about delivering food and drinks, once served they go on to perform some pretty impressive moves to some classic songs.

ITHAA underwater restaurant in the Maldives

With only 12 seats its surprising this venue has made it into this post, it’s the setting that makes it amongst the most unique. The restaurant can be found 16 feet below the Indian Ocean and is encased in an acrylic dome. Here you are the goldfish in the bowl watching a world of exotic sea creatures that may include various species of Ray, the occasional shark and many other beautiful marine creatures; it is the world’s first awe inspiring sub surface restaurant that is sure to set the heart on fire.

Military Themed Restaurant the Buns and Guns in Beirut

In the Buns and Guns Restaurant everything from the décor to the menu has a theme based upon Lebanon in 2006 (during the war with Israel). Music consists of military vehicle and helicopter recordings, nothing like a bit of white noise during a romantic evening out. They boast an unusual menu that may not cover everyones taste with the vegetarian option being named the Terrorist; other choices include the mortar burger, and the M16 Rifle. To attract the attention of the hungry traveller the sign above the door states ‘sandwiches will kill you’. If you are looking for a killer restaurant then this one maybe right up your street, some mean cuisine!

Ron writes articles for the menu holder shop who manufacture menu covers and holders for the restaurant industry. He has travelled the world sampling many different foods in some of the strangest themed restaurants, whilst on travels he has tasted the most poisonous of all fish the puffer fish and has eaten from toilet seat restaurants and worst of all tested several countries army issue rations.

Recent surveys have shown Seattle drinkers are high ranked in the US when it comes to drinking coffee. Of course this depends on the survey one’s takes into consideration. Seattle is second best only to Tampa according to one of these surveys. One other one- off the bunch of surveys places Seattle just next to Chicago and New York not to mention The Daily Beast which places the Seattle on top of all other places in the US.

Coffee Consumption Across the Globe

However, taking a peek into the general consumption across the globe, Scandinavian countries seem to be well ahead of its peers. Finland for example consumes about three times the amount of coffee consumed in the US. Furthermore, countries like Norway, Denmark, Iceland and Sweden have been noted to consume double the amount consumed by Americans. The US also lags behind Countries like Spain Greece, Italy, France, Greece and even Canada. In terms of rankings, the US is ranked 26th globally in terms of coffee consumption. With that in mind, it looks like Seattle coffee drinkers still have to step up their game!

Ironically though, some of the top ranked coffee producing countries like Colombia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Mexico, Ethiopia, and India are not among the top ranked in the realm of coffee consumption. Only Brazil- which is ranked at 13th appeared in the top 50 of the top coffee producers. The statistic is quite shameful since it expected that coffee producers have a taste of their own commodity to ensure improvements of future products.

Tastes, Preferences and Coffee Culture

It is known that coffee consumers have variable taste and preferences when it comes to coffee drinks. Italians tend to favor espresso unlike the Turks who like thick coffee. Seattle coffee drinkers are big fans of the French coffee -coffee with hot milk. Cubans on the other hand prefer coffee that is normally thick and sweetened; it is referred to as Café Cubano. The Irish have a rather different technique of consuming coffee in that they mix coffee with whiskey, sugar and ice cream and then drink it after dinner. Last but not least, there are some other countries that take coffee with different type of milk like coconut milk, evaporated milk and dairy milk to make iced coffee. Examples include Thailand and Vietnam.

The cultures behind coffee drinking also differ across the globe. In Seattle, people drink coffee as they hurry to work while others like the Swedes slow down to take coffee in their coffee breaks-termed Fika, with friends, family and colleagues. Most Swedes take coffee with baked goods like Cinnamon bun.

In Ethiopia there is an integral coffee ceremony that is characterized by a combination roasting and brewing of coffee that is usually taken with salt or butter instead of sugar. The event can even for up-to two hours.

Conclusion

All said and done it can be seen that there is lots of ways of taking coffee. Perhaps as you take coffee in your favorite spot in Seattle, you could experiment on the coffee drinks. That would surely be fun!

Traveling is good but you should be well prepared before leaving for a trip. Special care should be taken about your diet and in keeping your body hydrated while you are out on a trip. Some tips are mentioned below which will help you have a happy and healthy trip.

One makes all the preparations related to the clothing, toiletry and other essential things to make their trip comfortable and pleasant.

But the main thing, which most of the people forget to plan, is about their diet while traveling. People have this mindset that they can eat anything because they are on vacation or traveling. But people who travel frequently are aware of the fact that they will have to pay later for eating all the junk food so it’s better to avoid eating such stuff.

The french fries are definitely a great example of what to watch, people love to put cheese and mayonnaise on top but then they realize how hard the food is to digest.. So such food should be avoided especially when you are out traveling.

The most important thing is to keep yourself hydrated which most of the people fail to do. Even before having a cup of tea or coffee it is good to have a glass full of water because the caffeine present in tea and coffee dehydrates one’s body which results in severe headache and nausea.

Therefore, a balanced amount of water should be taken during the entire day while you are out to keep you going all day long. Fluids also help you to digest food so the more fluid you take the easier will it be digest your food.

Another important point, which people usually ignore while they are out, is their breakfast. Most of the time, people don’t find it compulsory or have time to do breakfast because they are in a rush. According to the nutrition experts, having breakfast is important for a healthy body and mind. And a healthy breakfast keeps you going strong for the entire day without making you tired both mentally and physically. Hence, it is not wise to miss breakfast.

If you are leaving for a journey in the morning from home then it is advised to eat something healthy from home. Things which are high in protein and fiber should be taken. Things such as boiled eggs, low fat yogurt, fruits and seeded whole grain toasts.

Even if you are on a plane you can still eat healthy. You can bring healthy snacks with you to the plane and also there are options to buy your own food on the plane. One can pack some fruits or salad or a healthy sandwich in a plastic container to take on board. Apples and grapes are good options to eat while traveling because they cause no mess. Small packs of nuts and raisins can be taken while you are traveling.

All grocery stores have small packs containing nuts, almonds and other such treats which are ideal for traveling. Or you can simply make your own small packet of nuts and almonds available at home.

It is difficult to prepare the food of your choice while you are traveling. If you wish to eat healthy and it is not practical to take all the stuff with you to make your own food then you can always stop by Subway or any other healthy food outlet which are present almost everywhere around the world. You can eat a healthy sandwich from Subway with all you favorite salads and avoid taking fizzy drinks and French fries with them. Also fruits can be packed from any nearby grocery stores and also easy to carry on your way while you are traveling and wishing to eat healthy.

Carrying your own bottled water while traveling via planes is difficult because the security gates will not allow you to take bottled waters. One can always carry an empty water bottle which can be filled with water after crossing the security gates. Sachets of flavored fruit drinks are also available which are very handy and one can carry them along to mix in their water to avoid any fizzy drinks with meals. Also, flavored sachets of fruits can be added in kids water so they enjoy drinking it and it keeps them hydrated.

In short, trips can end up making you dehydrated especially business trips and you don’t feel productive and are unable to work well. It is always good to plan your trip in advance and be sure to to have healthy food and to keep yourself hydrated. This is the secret behind happy travelling of experienced travelers.

The distinct aromatic flavour of Iberico ham is great on any given day. Experimenting with many different kinds of meals that have Iberico ham can develop into not only a wonderful hobby but a very satisfied palate too. There are many ways to cook the ham and it all depends on personal taste and available equipment plus ingredients. How you cook the ham also depends on what you serve it with and in what quantities. Iberico ham is perfect for dinner meals, lunch, brunch, and even breakfast.

If you want a perfect meal for a small group of people with Iberico ham as one of the main ingredients, then there are many recipes you can try out at home. Iberico ham with creamy mushroom pasta is one such meal likely to make your whole family coming home early for meals every day. The cream based pasta is a deliciously smooth alternative and superior to the tomato based pasta and thus, it is fitting to use on a fine ham such as Iberico ham.

You can buy pasta and quickly cook it if you are in a hurry. Nevertheless, I find that homemade pasta is somehow tastier and more filling. For that, you will need a food processor and a pasta machine to make the work easier. To make the pasta you will need the following ingredients:

Plain Wheat Flour (400g)

Large-sized eggs (3)

Olive oil (22g)

Clean water (50ml)

Salt (1/2 teaspoonful)

Begin by putting all these ingredients into the food processor. Quickly blitz it into an even-mixed dough. Place it in a bowl after wrapping in clingwrap to retain the moisture and smoothness. After an hour, divide the dough into four portions. Roll out each of the four dough segments into a rectangular block then use a pasta machine to churn out the thin pasta strips.

Making the Iberico Ham-Based Sauce

For the sauce, you want a great flavour and one that always has my household salivating in anticipation is the Guijielo Ibarian ham produced by Geminiano through their family’s tradition of ham curing passed down through many generations. What you will require for this sauce is:

Chopped up slices of Iberico ham (1 packet)

Thinly sliced punnet of your favourite mushroom (1 Punnet)

Cream (1/2 Cup)

Chicken Stock (1/2 Cup)

Grated Cheese either Parmesan or Cheddar (200g)

Chopped Basil

Minced Garlic

Start out by heating up the olive oil then put in the chopped Iberico ham. Stir fry the chopped ham until it browns up and remove it. Heat up some olive oil again and put in the minced garlic. Saute it until you have the fragrant garlic aroma before you add the mushroom. Stir fry the mushroom until it softens then add in the chicken stock followed by the cream. Let the mixture come to a boil then put in some salt and season with pepper. Put in the cheese and let it melt in the boiling mixture.

Putting the Meal Together

Take out the pasta strips and cook them in boiling water until they soften. Stir the pasta in chopped basil and divide into the appropriate serving portions. Top up the pasta with the Iberico ham and the creamy mushroom sauce. Serve the mixture while still hot for an unforgettably delicious meal.

This recipe describes the preparation for a meal suitable for four people with a good appetite. You can proportionally increase the ingredients for bigger numbers when you have guests or reduce when alone. However, the time for preparation will not differ much. It is a quick meal to prepare once you have made the uncooked pasta. Typical timeframes are about 10 to 20 minutes before serving on the dinner table.

Iberico Ham

One of the main ingredients of this meal is the Iberico ham. This is not just any kind of ham. It is a specially-produced traditionally cured gourmet-standard ham favoured by the top chefs around the world. It is produced mostly in Western Spain through a delicate time-consuming curing process that has been formed over many generations and it takes two years and more before it is ready for your table.

The ham as a natural acorn flavour that comes from the pigs’ feeding of the acorns from the plentiful oak trees that grows in abundance in the luscious Spanish countryside. Due to its high quality, the ham is on the expensive side and if it is too steep for your pocket you can always use alternative types of ham in your recipe though it will not be the same meal.

Iberico ham has a sweet aroma and rich flavour. It is a gourmet meal and you need the best condiments to bring out the best. Creamy mushroom pasta is easy to prepare and the taste of the iberico ham will deliciously stand out.

If you don’t look around much there is a good chance that you are paying way too much for organic food than you should. Also, while you may be willing to pay a bit extra for organic food there are few people that can pay the often sky high prices associated with them each and every week. That said it is not impossible to find and purchase affordable and high quality organic food online and offline. If anything you can save quite a bit.

Start with some research

There could be much more organic food choices in your community than you know of. It just takes a bit of research to find these sources out. Almost every state has organic associations and various organizations that will advise on what places you should start your research. You can also use a search engine to type in the name of your state and the word ‘organic’ to find out more.

Make a stop at farmers’ markets

These happen to be an excellent source of fresh local produce. Here you will find freshly picked tomatoes, cucumbers, and oranges etc., all of which taste way better than their supermarket counterparts. These markets are cheaper and happen to be fresher. However, if you don’t see a sign that reads ‘Organic’ at these markets then be sure to ask, because there could be some farmers who are making a switch to more organic farming but may not be approved or certified yet. The best thing you can do to land a great deal is to ask tons of questions.

Purchase a share in community supported agriculture

By purchasing a share in any community supported program you are in fact paying a portion of any local farmer’s operating expenses. So, in return you will receive weekly boxes of often fresh vegetables and fruit with each upcoming harvest. This is probably the easiest way to guarantee that you’re getting farm fresh and organic foods. A local share costs anywhere from $300 to $500 for a 24 to 26 week season. You can also make monthly payments, you can also purchase half share instead of whole.

Become a co-op member

A cooperative is a sort of member owned business which provides products including organic groceries to all its members at a huge discount. A lot of the products you see that line the shelves of co-ops are usually organically grown and a lot of it comes from local farms owned by families. There is an easy signup process and you just need to pay a small fee. You can also volunteer to work in exchange for further discounts on the products you purchase.

Become a member of a buying club

This happens to be a great way to get your hands on some organic food that you want at a low price. When you are a member of a buying club you can get up to a 40% discount off the original retail price of organic fruits and vegetables. You can purchase in bulk and then split it with other members. Most people don’t know about these types of clubs and how much they can save. However, if you have a deep freezer you can buy the in season foods in bulk, slice and then store them in your freezer. A lot of the stuff you purchase can be saved for up to a year if stocked correctly in zip lock bags or air tight containers.

Grow your own fruits and vegetables

If you’re really big on organic produce another sure way of ensuring that you’re getting the best quality with a bit of work is to grow your own. Things like carrots, radishes, cucumbers, and beets are very easy to grow. These can also be grown in a large pot. This is the perfect project for stay at home moms who have the time to dedicate to growing their own fruits and vegetables for the greater good of their family’s health.

Finding food online and offline is very easy but knowing if you’re getting great quality is difficult. Also, you may end up spending a lot on organic food if you don’t watch out. So, the tips above should help you save quite a bit.

Obsessive food photographer and blogger, Marion Weil continues to
discover amazing dishes prepared throughout Thailand. Her passion for
Thai food began when she tried out Thai food for the first time in 1997.
Since then, she has been traveling to Thailand and enrolling herself in
Thai cooking classes in aims to publish her very own self-made
cookbook.

Coming to Thailand means exposing yourself to a whole new culture, traditions, locales and its world-recognized dishes. In Thailand alone, there are several hundreds of famous dishes scattered across the country from North Thailand to the tip of South Thailand. Each dish is distinguished by their ingredients, preparation methods and of course, taste. When tourists travel to Thailand, sometimes food becomes a challenge. Many people are unable to handle large quantities of spice or even eat Thai food due to the intense amount of coconuts and peanuts in dishes.

This alone shouldn’t deter you from trying out Thai food! Luckily there are many dishes which don’t contain heaps of spice or smothered with coconuts. This list hopefully will benefit any would be travelers coming to the Kingdom of Thailand without worrying what they’re next meal is!

Tom Kha Gai (Thai Coconut Chicken Soup)

This simple dish is mostly listed in any Thai restaurant. Why? This dish is easy to do and it tastes great! There’s 2 variations of the dish; spicy and non-spicy. You can opt out of the spicy one and try the non-spicy flavor which doesn’t jeopardize the taste in any way. The dish tastes milky (due to the coconut milk), has a nice aroma (thanks to lime leaves), with a pinch of sour and salt mixed in and it’s a great way to fill your stomach. Tom kha gai is slightly coconut heavy but doesn’t have to be; it’s up to personal preference, really.
First timers coming to Thailand are highly encouraged to try out this dish! It’s fragrant and it’ll make your taste buds tingling for more!

Kuay Teow Reua (Boat Noodles)

If you happen to be adventurous and feel like eating noodles, kuay teow reua is one of the simplest foods to eat when you’re in a rush!

From first glance, the noodles may not appeal appealing due to the thick broth (which at times, foreigners call it pork blood, but it isn’t), some fish or pork balls and noodles. You may think it’s such a simple meal but in fact, there’s more to it. To enjoy the dish, you need condiments. We Thais love dishes to be spicy. However, you can opt to eat boat noodles plain. Of course, if you need a bit of flavoring, you can add in nam pla (fish sauce) to a pinch of saltiness. Maybe a small pinch of sugar as well! Condiments will be laid out for you and it’s up to you what you want to put into your bowl to make this regular dish appealing and drool worthy!

Som Tum Polamai (Fruit Salad)

This isn’t your normal fruit salads you get at commercial stalls; som tum polamai takes fruits salad to an entirely new level of yum!

Thailand is mainly known for its spicy papaya salad which in itself is a sensational side dish which targets at numbing your tongue. But you can also try out som tum polamai in a different light; many street vendors can make this delectable dish for your throwing in apples, oranges, dragon fruit, peaches, apricots and whatever else that’s offered. Most of the fruits tossed in will be sweet to the taste and delicious to the touch. This dish isn’t meant to be served spicy at all, like its vegetable counterpart. It’s supposed to be sweet, healthy for you and in a way, makes you eat your daily dose of fruits for the day!

There's tons of variations to this dish and all are highly customizable! If you're planning on trying this out at home, go ahead, you'll love it! This is just the beginning to discovering the different varieties you can do with Thai food!

Larb Pla Duk (Catfish Salad)

Hands down, this is one of the most common Thai dishes; it can be ordered at pretty much any given street stall in Thailand. For those who can’t stand the heat (literally and metaphorically), the dish can be ordered without any chili flakes; the lime in the dish can compensate for the taste!

The main star in this dish is actual, deboned catfish. The catfish is grilled and deboned. Once tasted, the meat should be soft and juicy thanks to the smoke from the grill. If you happen to go to a restaurant that serves it but the taste is ‘off’, meaning, you don’t taste the catfish… then it’s probably not real catfish; it can instead be artificial catfish flakes. If you see it, avoid eating at all costs. It’s not like the artificial catfish does harm to your body, it just doesn’t taste right.

If you’re planning on seeking a dish with a tingly taste, this is the right dish for you.

Moogata (Thai BBQ)
Okay, maybe this isn’t really a dish but it’s darn well popular in the country to be considered one. You won’t find restaurant serving moogata much as this is meant to be eaten outside and enjoy the ambiance of night. Moogata is essentially Thai BBQ.

Served with a hot pan in the middle of the table, you order what you want to put on the pan such as raw pork, beef, chicken, seafood—you name it, the place will probably have it.
And there you have it; top 5 Thai foods you need to try once you set foot in the Land of Smiles. These dishes are full of flavor, delicious and extremely affordable. You can find these dishes almost anywhere in Bangkok; from street stalls to 4-star exclusive Bangkok hotels, they’re there to challenge your taste buds. Everywhere you go, the ingredients will remain the same but the taste matters on how the dish is actually made!

Coffee is a morning pick me up for many people who rely on not only its caffeine, but its flavour and aroma to wake up their senses first thing in the morning. Unlike the US the UK has yet to have a drive through coffee shop in each town but that can't stop coffee lovers from experiencing a big company taste from the comfort of their own home.

Commercial coffee machines are becoming more common in the home with a huge range of roasts and flavours available for the discerning customer, what's to stop you from whipping up your own deliciously flavoured cappuccino in your kitchen. They are also to be found in pretty much any office building the world over, with that in mind here are my top five flavoured syrups, some familiar, some not and all of them readily available on the internet should they take your fancy.

Vanilla

There's just something about the aroma of coffee and vanilla blended together that manages to not only comfort you but make you anticipate the drink itself. The fact that you can also get it as organic, French, no sugar or blue agave just adds to the idea that Vanilla is a staple, a syrup every coffee lover should have a little bottle of just in case they need a little pick me up at some point in the week.

Hazelnut

I couldn't have a top 5 without at least one nut flavoured syrup in here and as much as I love almond, hazelnut will always be my go to flavour – this could be because it reminds me of a certain chocolate spread, but I know that it definitely compliments the flavour of coffee. Hazelnut is just one of those fragrances, when mixed with coffee, which makes me do a little “mmhh” in anticipation.

Caramel

For those of you that have a sweet tooth, caramel is going to be a delicious addition to your morning coffee, or afternoon coffee... or your relaxing evening coffee. I think if I could I'd add a little caramel syrup to all my coffees, but I have to admit I find it best in an iced Frappuccino.

Gingerbread

I know you might think that this one is a little too... seasonal, but I honestly couldn't leave it out. Not only does gingerbread have that wonderfully warm, spicy smell, it also helps to partly satisfy my craving for baked goods. Okay, I give in, it's also wonderful to smell coffee and gingerbread at Christmas time too.

Marshmallow

This is my wild card, it's not a flavour you'll see around too often but it's delicious in its own way, especially when you combine it with other syrups! It's a little bit of luxury, and probably a fair bit of nostalgia for anyone who had marshmallows in hot chocolate growing up. My advice would be to get a small bottle and keep it in your desk drawer so you can add it to your coffee to help chase away those Monday morning blues.

As September rapidly approaches hosts and hostesses are asking themselves, what is the perfect wine to serve at an end of Summer party? The final days of Summer are always bitter sweet, and the food and drink served to celebrate them is reminiscent of the fresh and vibrant mystique that surrounds the beloved season.

Chenin Blanc is the perfect white wine to put a memorable mark on any Summer wrap up party as it has a taste best paired with ingredients that are harvested in late July and early August. As more boutique growers begin to cultivate Chenin grapes this wine is beginning to over shadow it’s more popular opponent Sauvignon Blanc and finally shed its stigma of being bitter and cheap.

Recently skilled vineyard owners have been finally growing Chenin grapes correctly, in turn stripping the refreshing drink from its position as the white wine pariah.

Chenin Blanc grapes must be grown in a small community of vines in order for them to develop their robust fresh fruit flavor profiles but in the time of the late ‘70s Chenin Blanc was mass produced by corporations creating a bitter, dissatisfying flavor. This lack of care and attention to the proper growing technique built a stigma for Chenin with wine connoisseurs. But these grapes are no longer mass produced in bulk and skilled vineyard owners have been correctly growing the grapes to give them their proper inviting complexity.

A Chenin Blanc will express its flavor in three ways that pair perfectly with an appetizer, main course and dessert of any Summer party. The flavors of Chenin marry wholly with fruits, fish and vegetables, and these three foods are perfect for a barbeque, there is not another white wine to serve at an August party. A Chenin can vary as follows:

Fresh and Fruity: most varietals of this grape are aged with a fresh and vibrant fruit profile that will have notes of lemon and grass. This type of dry Chenin is perfectly paired with the flavors of a summer salad, giving any party thrower appetizer options that are in season and harvested in August, such as snap peas, green beans and squash.

Oak: some of these white wines are cured to create a deep musky essence in an off dry varietal that is best paired with a rich fish. Fish is the ultimate summer time main course for a back yard soiree. Any host could pair this type of Chenin with a large stuffed tuna or a zesty, healthy salmon thrown on the barbeque while artfully layering the flavors of both the food and beverage.

Super Sweet: a simple, classic fruit filled dessert screams summer and a sweet profiled Chenin Blanc is the best pairing for a tart dessert made of freshly picked blackberries or a pear tart.

Chenin Blanc is just as delicious if not more appetizing than its popular rival Sauvignon Blanc. Serving Sauvignon Blanc at a summer bash has become almost yawn worthy and although it brings less notoriety, Chenin Blanc is the perfect beverage for a hot August day or a delectable summer dinner.

It provides multiple expressions of flavor rendering it more exciting to the palate than Sauvignon.

Chenin ages better than Sauvignon, becoming more fruity and eventually sweet with the proper curing technique.

This wine offers far more complexity and delicate layering of its components in comparison to Sauvignon.

The small amount of vines necessary to produce a good Chenin imply that the grower took extra time in caring for the plants and was able to treat them in a boutique growing manner, ensuring quality in every grape.

Throwing an end of summer get together is a given, but serving Chenin Blanc is often forgotten even though it is the perfect summer beverage. One can pair it with the season’s best harvest for a perfect three course meal that will wow their guests, and with the popularity of this white wine growing the secret will not be kept for long.

Decorating the Table

If you've watched enough Jamie Oliver episodes to try and throw a dinner party, then now’s the time to give it a go. Hosting a dinner party is a great way to spend time with friends and family and if you’re feeling intimidated by a lack of space or cooking skills - don’t! Our tips will help you to make your dinner party a royal feast.

Candles help to set an ambience for a party. To make the table look attractive get a selection of candles in differing heights to add depth.

If you prefer flowers head to the local market to grab a few bunches of what’s in season. Find different size jars to add depth and a talking point to your dinner table.

Table runners add a nice touch of contrast to your table’s colours. If you’re crafty you can even make them yourself. Lay the runner down the centre of the table and arrange your candles or vases along it.

If you’ve chosen to have a themed dinner party decorate with appropriate centre pieces or little keepsakes relevant to the theme. For example if you’re having a 1920’s dinner party, look up which flowers were popular then and make those your centre piece for the evening. You could even play music that is relevant to the theme.

Time Savers

On the night of your dinner party you’ll want to spend your time with your guests and not in the kitchen. Here are a few timesaver tips for just that:

Plan a familiar menu – if you’ve already prepared the dishes ahead of time you can eliminate unwanted surprises and a great deal of stress.

A simple vegetable soup is a good example of a starter that can be prepared ahead of time and reheated before serving, which is light and healthy. For a delicious main course consider cooking a herb-roasted meat joint that you can prepare beforehand by rubbing the meat with herbs and spices and putting it in the oven in time for it to be ready when you’re ready to serve the main course.

Side dishes like a parmesan polenta can be made up to a day before and reheated when it’s time to serve or place your chosen vegetables in a steamer in time to serve with the meat. Salads can be prepared earlier too. Desserts like cakes can be prepared the day before.

Shop the day before – this way you’ll get what you need without feeling pressurised and you’re less likely to have to run back to the shop just before guests arrive.

Set the table early – set your table with your dining table a while before your guests arrive. You can take your time decorating it and deciding on place settings and your guests will feel comfortable knowing that they have a place set and waiting for them.

Setting the Mood

Once your guests arrive you’ll want them to feel comfortable and well fed! To begin with, offer them something to drink like a signature cocktail (prepared earlier of course!). If you plan on serving snacks put them in the oven a few minutes before your guests are due to arrive so that they’re ready just as people get there. Have some mood-setting music playing in the background too. Choose tunes that are light and won’t make conversation difficult.

Once everyone has arrived and your starter has been warmed up you can ask your guests to take their places at the table for an evening of good food and good company.

Lately I have become cognizant of an exciting new trend in certain south eastern markets like Florida and Georgia. If you are wondering what I am talking about, it’s the Arepa. A flatbread commonly made from corn dough as well as flour.

Most of my Hispanic readers will already know what I am talking about. The arepa itself is a product derived from corn that is cooked into a flatbread. These Spanish flatbreads originated from Colombia and Venezuela where they were topped with a variety of ingredients such as cheeses and meats.

The Spanish flatbreads of sorts are being reinvented in America in a variety of exciting ways. In some areas they are being fused with classic American dishes such as the typical hamburger. Other times the arepa is simply served as it traditionally is in its native countries of origin. I intend to dive right into this Arepa fascination that seems to be setting into the complex weave of American society.

Who Carries These?

One of the more exciting aspects of this food craze is how the dish seems to reach all form of delicatessen. This ubiquitous presence allows Americans to become familiarized with the arepa at a myriad of price points. Most of us are more willing to try out new food items when the price is easily swallowed.

Of all the more frugal places I have visited and had an arepa based dish I must say my favorites have been locations that fuse the arepa with another regions cuisine. In the central Florida market of Orlando I found myself oft visiting a food truck in the heart of Downtown Orlando. This food truck served arepa burgers, arepa quesadillas, and arepa gyros that were both ingeniously creative as well as delectable.

These arepa burgers I stuffed down my gullet were based on another Hispanic fusion dish known as the Colombian burger. These burgers are doused in sauces that heavily rely on garlic to provide the main flavor. Not only are these dishes delicious but they are also rather cheap, coming it at an average of seven dollars per dish.

I implore you to try the lower cost arepa burgers out if they are available in your area. Yet for those already acquainted with the delectable taste of a corn based Hispanic flatbread I recommend exploring the arepa’s native roots. You will find that many five star establishments are unquestionably desired and it’s apparent due to the catering business that many of these companies provide.

One such provider of arepa based dishes is Caracas Rockaway, which is located in Manhattan as well as Brooklyn. Caracas Rockaway oozes a high quality dining experienced that mixes both authentic cuisine with new takes on the classic South American Dish.

Ready for Prime Time

The arepa is a dish that could very well revolutionize Hispanic dishes in the United States. Its current status in the minds of most Americans is simply non-existent. Still all food revolutions take time and it’s no wonder that the arepa would adhere to such a basic tenant.

Considering that the United States is currently debating over topics such as Immigration reform, it’s no surprise that a Hispanic dish might lose its traction on any given day. Our political climate is often toxic when it comes to regarding the peoples of South America. This toxicity leads to distrust and anger towards cultures that in no way deserve such treatment.

Even with all of this negativity I know in my heart that America is a melting pot nation. Eventually after the restless rumbling of the old guard subsides and Hispanics have fully assimilated into the culture, I feel confident that the arepa as well as other Hispanic dishes will eventually enjoy the benefits of becoming a staple dish in the eyes of the United States Populace.

The taste of seafood is one of the most popular delicacies in the world. The most under appreciated dish of seafood is the crayfish. Maybe it's due to the freshwater habitat or serving size of their midsection. When cooked properly, crayfish can be some of the most tasty seafood you will ever eat. There are a wide variety of ways to cook them but today I'm going to give you the easiest way while still maintaining flavor.

Obtain Live Crayfish Only

There are a billion and one places to buy crayfish but what I always advise people to do is buy "live" ones. This means the crayfish are actually moving around and fully alive. This means if you get your hands close, you may get pinched. This sometimes scares people but this is a complete must. I like to personally see where these crayfish come from and how they are held until the consumer pays for them. I need them to come straight from a water tank like live well.

Washing Them With Saltwater

Even though crayfish come from freshwater habitat, we are going to use salt to clean them. Salt is a great way to clean food and just by soaking food in salt can do some help killing of bacteria. Get two large pots or pans ready and fill them with water. Next, add a concentrated amount of salt to the water. It doesn't have to be a crazy concentration but still a descent amount. Reason for the two of them is to directly swap the crayfish from one to another.

Your going to drop all the crayfish you plan to eat into the salt water and gently rinse them around a tiny bit. Once you let them soak for around 5 minutes, switch them to other pot of saltwater. Some find that using a strainer to catch them as you pour the water helps. Continue changing them into buckets of saltwater until you can physically see the water isn't dirty as you pour it out. You will be able to tell how dirty the crayfish were by looking at the water clarity they are in while rinsing.

Ready for the Boil Session

Our crayfish are clean and ready to be cooked. A basic boil is going to be our method of cooking. Get a large pot ready to boil the crayfish in. I find it easiest to do this outside with a propane burner and large pot. Before putting the crayfish in the cooking water, you need to make sure all of them are still alive.

Dead crayfish tend to have "mushy" meat and as soon as the crustacean dies, the meat tends to change to a fishy like mush. This is why cooking live crayfish is mandatory for great tasting crayfish meat. If there are any dead crayfish whatsoever they need to be thrown out now.

Removing the Edible Meat

Taking apart crayfish is somewhat of an art but once you have it figured out its very simple. Grab the cooked crayfish by the midsection and find that middle spot where the torso meats the upper body. This is where your going to twist each side a different direction and rip them apart from each other.

This rear section of the tail that you ripped off of the midsection is what is edible meat. There is just one stringy like piece that goes directly down the center of the tail. Some eat this string like membrane but most prefer to remove it so they are eating nothing but beautiful meat. To remove that piece, just peel back the section of the tail that is directly in the center of the flat tail.

Finally, all the meat is surrounded by a thin layer of crust that should be removed. It peels back very easily and all of that thick tale meat is juicy edible meat. Dip it in butter or eat it with a drop of lemon. Enjoy your tasty seafood that you directly cooked yourself.

Pizza is one of the most popular foods because there are such a variety of toppings. Of course the traditional pizza toppings such as pepperoni, sausage and cheese are very common. Which means it can get kind of boring. But there is also other ingredients that could make your pizza more festive. Here are some of the most creative pizza toppings.

Kale

Everyone from Jennifer Aniston to Oprah is raving about the health benefits of Kale. Kale is a leafy green that can add a powerful punch of fiber to your favorite dishes. Kale is fiber rich and full of protein. It is filling and there are many ways to enjoy it. Kale chips on pizza can make a great treat. Take kale and put it in the over, sprinkle olive oil, salt pepper and some Cajun pepper on to the fresh green leafs. Stick it into the oven for 10 min then put the crispy kale on your pizza slices. Instant yum.

Mango

Mango is often called the king of fruit, notable for its powerful health benefits. Mango on your pizza is a great new twist. Mango can help fight cancer, clear your skin and help lower cholesterol. Putting it on a pizza in the summertime is a wonderful appetizer for parties and get together.

Milk Chocolate and Peppers

When you think of pizza, most people don't think about chocolate, but putting something sweet on your dough can help your taste buds enjoy something classic. Drizzle chocolate and even Cajun pepper will make a great dessert.

Eggs

In some cultures people will make a breakfast pizza and put eggs and even bacon on the pizza. You can try this at home, make scrabbled eggs or sunny side up ad lay the protein power houses on top of the pizza crust. The bacon can be sliced into bits or layed in strips on top. This is a great brunch item for father’s day or a special event.

Cream

In the sprit of dessert pizza, adding some sweet whip cream to the top of your pizza will be a happy new twist. You can put fresh strawberries and whop cream on top of a cinnamon buttered crust. This makes a great dessert for parties and birthdays. Kids will love the fun take on a tradition dish.

Rice

Adding rice, quinoa or grains on top of your pizza may sound funky but it can be tasty with the right ingredients. Put the rice with soy sauce and shrimp and you have a Japanese inspired pizza pie.

Marshmallows

You don't have to go back to kids camp to pull out the s'mores. Putting marshmallows, gram crackers and chocolate on your pizza can bring back tasty memories. This is a great dessert that will make the entire family smile.

Pizza is a great food to eat anytime of they year. No matter what time of day, you can enjoy this great food. Whether you are throwing a party and want to entertain your guests or you are looking for creative ideas for the family dinner, these fun new toppings can add more fun to your favorite dish.

South America’s beauty and diversity leaves many travelers enchanted. However, many people when contemplating going somewhere a little different can be anxious about the food - but if you use common sense then you should avoid wasting days of your holiday lying in bed dealing with a bad stomach. All countries are unique and starting the day with a region’s specialist dish is a great way of getting to know a place. This article looks at five of the most popular - and possibly challenging - breakfast options in Latin America.

Mexico - Huevos Rancheros

Huevos rancheros or Rancher's Eggs - traditionally a hearty breakfast for farm workers - consisting of fried eggs which are placed on top of corn bread and topped with a tomato and chilli sauce. This is accompanied by refried beans, avocado, guacamole and rice mixed with tomatoes, green chillies, garlic and onions and chicken stock, boiled together with herbs and spices. It might sound a bit much but if you’re going to be out and about all day it’ll certainly keep you going.

Peru – Ceviche and Coca Tea

Ceviche has its origins in Peru, but can also be enjoyed in many other countries throughout South America, with each country having its own variation on the dish. Traditionally in Peru, it is made from fresh raw fish which has been marinated in lemon juice. Spices and chilli peppers are added, together with chopped onions, coriander and salt. Ceviche will normally be accompanied by side dishes such as sweet potato, plantain, lettuce and avocado. It may seem a surprising breakfast choice but ceviche is eaten all times of day in Peru. Coca Tea, made from the Coca plant certainly packs a punch and in Peru it is drunk with most meals as it is considered a great prevention/remedy for altitude sickness.

Argentina – Facturas with Dulche de Leche and Mate

For those with a sweet tooth, there is nothing finer than facturas, which are delicious rolls which can be filled with wonderful combinations, such as custard, dulce de leche and jam. Dulce de leche is a sweet milk which can be made into either a thick jam or a caramel. Facturas are normally served together with Mate which is a brew of dried yerba mate leaves and served with a metal straw called a bombilla, from a hollow calabash gourd. You won’t fail to see mate drinkers on an Argentina holiday -it’s very popular with young and old alike.

Brazil - Queijo Coalho and Mortadella

Dairy is not consumed or produced in Brazil in the quantities that it is in Europe but one of the country’s most popular is Queijo Coalho which can vary from a delicate soft and creamy taste to the very strong aged varieties, but whatever your preference, it is delicious when eaten with mortadella, a type of smoked sausage, served with a chunk of crispy white bread and a cup of the local, very strong, nutty tasting coffee.

Bolivia - Saltenas and Bolivian Tea

Bolivia is famed for its saltenas, which are similar to empanadas, and are pastries which contain a filling of spiced beef or chicken and vegetables. They are great for breakfast or as a snack, but be sure to enjoy them with a cup of very special Bolivian tea, which is very similar to Peru’s coca tea and will leave you with great memories of breakfast time in South America.
Food is art, food is passion and primarily a necessity. Every culture can be characterized by its traditional cuisine. In every dish we make, we put a little piece of our own creativity and uniqueness.
As every art, food has its ups and downs, its popular 'creations' and only a few masterpieces. Today we offer you one of these delicious masterpieces. It is sweet, it is tasty and, as you have probably suggested, it is French. In fact, what most people don't know is that there different types of Nougat.

The most popular one is the white one, which is a widely spread dessert in Northern France. The black nougat, on the other hand, is believed to be a connoisseur product. A very delicious recipe with nougat are the so-called chocolate-dipped nougat bites. It is quite a simple to prepare recipe, since the only thing you need to do is simply dipping nougat in some kind of chocolate – white, plain or milk. It is really tasty.

What are we going to offer you today is one not-so famous but really delicious recipe, which you can use to surprise your beloved one or impress your friends on the Christmas party. It is really easy, it will not cost you neither efforts, nor much time and the result will be gorgeous. Me personally, took the challenge a few weeks ago and decided to prepare it.

The occasion was my third anniversary with my husband and I really wanted to impress him (which is always very hard, since he is a professional chief). So, in order not to get into an embarrassing situation, I made a chocolate cake in case my French dessert fails. Well, I will save you the details around the whole evening, but at the end my chocolate cake remained in the fridge and neither me, nor my husband thought of it for days. So here is this great recipe from Northern France, enjoy it!

Ingredients:

12 eggs

2 soup spoons of sugar;

1 jar of jam of whole, green figs (strawberries or cherries are also a good idea );

1 spoon of confectionery cream;

Caramelized walnuts

How To Prepare?

Take the yolks and the sugar, mix and then beat them up. In another containers beat up the cream and the whites (again separated from one another). Mix everything and at the end add the whites while carefully stirring with an wooden spoon. Cut the whole figs into small pieces and add them to the mixture along with the walnuts. If you don't have any figs (or you just don't like eating them), you can change the recipe and replace them with some pieces of kiwi. After that you put the composite into an appropriate container and place it in the fridge. When it is ready, put the desert (just the container) into some tepid water, then cut it into pieces and serve. You can decorate with some fruit, walnuts and caramel.

Bon Appetit!

A juice diet involves drinking only fresh, blended fruits and vegetables for a nutritious, fulfilling meal. As a substitute for standard meal plans, a juice diet can be beneficial for losing weight and getting a good daily balance of vitamins and nutrients. Alternatively, drinking juices as a supplement to an ordinary healthy meal plan can provide a welcome health boost. But what are the real benefits?

Nutrition

When fruits and vegetables are juiced, they lose their insoluble fibre which makes it much easier and quicker for our bodies to absorb the phytonutrients and enzymes in the produce. Juices act as direct delivery systems to help our bodies absorb the good stuff naturally. In addition, for anyone not so keen on getting their five-a-day, blended fruits and vegetables can be an easy way to get your daily requirement. For example, the broccoli and carrots ever-present in childhood nightmares are easily and tastily combined with other ingredients in a juice, so much so that you may not even notice they’re there.

Convenience

In addition to the various health benefits of juicing, it is also one of the most convenient meals to prepare, store and enjoy. For the majority of juice recipes, the only preparation involved is skinning, pitting or chopping the fruit and veg, then simply throwing it into your juicer and pulsing until smooth. The easiest way to prepare juices is to prepare a high volume at once, then store the remainder in the fridge or freezer until you need it. Juices can be stored in a flask and taken to work to save you the hassle of preparing a lunch box of sandwiches, fruit and other snacks.

In addition, the leftovers from juicing (pulp, skin) can be used in other ways. Try adding the pulp to other recipes such as apple-bran muffins or vegetable broth. Or why not just add the pulp back into the juice for some added texture?

Weight loss

When compared to an ordinary balanced diet of carbohydrates, proteins, fats and other vitamins and minerals, a juice strips the ingredients down to the bare essentials with very little fat and salt. Whilst those with an unhealthy diet (e.g. fast food, takeaways, processed foods) may benefit from the clean juice meal plan, it can be tricky to ensure you still get enough fat. If you’re unsure about embarking on a juice diet, try beginning by supplementing the occasional meal with a juice.

Skin, eyes and hair

The vitamins in juice can benefit more than just your weight loss. The ingredients you choose to add to your juices will change the positive effects on your overall health. For example, for healthy eyes, adding a few key ingredients such as carrots, kale and red/orange fruits will provide a boost of vitamin A which the body converts to retinol to protect the delicate eye area. For healthy skin, vitamin E is an essential. Find this in blackberries, bananas and kiwis.

There is a wine movement called the "Other 46" which basically says that states outside of the major wine producing states of California, Oregon, Washington and New York are able to produce great wine as well and deserve the same level of recognition. I thought it might be fun to share some of the leading areas in this "Other 46" movement since these areas are producing high quality wine, often at a much cheaper price than the states we know well already.

Secondly, these are great regions to visit because the wineries are often much smaller and you have better access to winemakers and vineyard owners. For most people looking to go on a wine tasting adventure, that access is what people really want.

Willcox Arizona: A generation ago, people thought the hot summer temperatures in Arizona would preclude high quality (or really any) wine from being produced. That opinion has changed partially because vintners have realized that planting the vines at higher elevations allows for lower average day time and night time temperatures, helping to give them a better chance at success.

They’re also pretty smart about putting tasting rooms within walking distance of each other and focusing largely on Rhone varietals or even Portugese and Spanish wine grapes which are more accustomed to these type of growing conditions. One of our favorite parts of visiting Willcox is their annual grape stomp festival. With so many wineries ending these type of events, it is nice to see a cooperative effort to bring people out and give them a good idea about what the winemaking process actually looks like.

Lake Michigan, Michigan: There are a number of states offering cooler growing environments that show promise, but Michigan continues to be our favorite. To start, they’re closely copying grape plantings and winemaking processes from both Canadian and European vintners. The focus here is largely on white wines, but those are being turned into sparkling wine (think Champagne) table wines that you’re already familiar with like Chardonnay as well as late harvest wine (ie dessert wines like Port).

We’re especially interested if they can continue to grow their production of ice wine, which is actually the most difficult wine to produce in the world. Basically a vintner has to allow the grapes to freeze while on the vine, only to squeeze out a single drop of juice from each grape. It’s incredibly labor intensive and risky, but the results are truly incredible when done well. Michigan has the opportunity and the climate to produce ice wine really well.

Virginia: Originally the home of the America wine industry thanks to Thomas Jefferson and his love of French wine. It took a couple of centuries, but vintners largely centered in and around his Menticello Estate are producing wines being rated consistently at 90 points or above according to major wine critics.

They originally tried to compete directly with California in terms of Cabernet Sauvignon and other grapes, but over the past few years they have moved increasingly to plant varietals more suited to their local climate. Grapes like Norton (yes the same as the jelly) and Norton are being incredibly well thought of by consumers and wine critics alike. Given that these grapes are also native to the United States, they’re worth an extra close look.

If you’re planning a trip to Ireland, then the most obvious beer to drink is Guinness. However, Ireland has a rich heritage in different stouts, ales, and porters as well.
Branching out from the usual pints will give a taste of some of Ireland’s smaller breweries. Another perk? You’ll leave your trip with some impressive beer knowledge to share with your friends in the pub back home.

Stout

Stout refers to a particular way of making beer, which involves the use of dark malts. It’s this that gives stout its particular black, or dark brown colouring. Stout originates from the 1720s, and was invented with the purpose of creating a stronger beer that was therefore less likely to spoil. Stouts are generally dry, and tend to taste a bit like coffee (with a high alcohol content).

No trip to Ireland is complete without a journey into the world of stout.
While Ireland is famous for its stout, the vast range of stouts available across the country may surprise you. Contrary to popular myth, Guinness is actually not a stout. However, in every pub you will be able to find a proper stout that suits your taste.

The most popular stouts in Ireland are Beamish and Murphy. Give them a try, but also check with the barman to see whether they’re offering a special guest stout.

Ale

If you fancy something different than the traditional lager, then ale is the best place to start. Ale is one of the most traditional forms of beer, and contains hops, as well as malt. Originally, British and Irish drinkers used to drink ale because it was safer than drinking water (it’s probably safe to say this is not the case any more!). Ales are often known for their humorous names, as well as the fact that they are pumped by hand.

Ale has perhaps the widest range of options for the casual drinker. You’ll find plenty of guest ales touring pubs across the country - so there’s really no need to drink the same ale twice. Most drinking establishments will carry a number of different ales, so the best tactic is to ask the barman which ale he recommends. Varieties such as pale ale and blonde ale are a great way to start your ale-drinking career, offering a lighter flavour that contains some of the bitterness of traditional ale.

For something quite unique, try a ‘cream ale’, such as the famous Kilkenny Irish Cream Ale, which originates from the south western Irish county. Or if you’re looking for nice, full flavour, check out the Brain Blasta ale brewed at Dublin’s most famous microbrewery/pub, The Porterhouse.

Porter

Porter has much the same history as stout, although it tends to be darker. The name porter originates from the fact that brewers used to brew the beer for river porters in London, who preferred the stronger, darker drink to ales or stouts. Porters came into their own in the period preceding the Napoleonic wars, when malt was cheaper, and therefore porters were more common.

For most drinkers, particularly those in Ireland, porter is synonymous with Guinness. Arthur Guinness developed his drink in Dublin in the 1750s, and signed a famous 9,000-year lease on the Guinness factory there (the original lease is now embedded in the floor to the factory, and visible to tourist groups).

If you are planning a trip to the Irish capital, then one of the best pints of Guinness you’ll ever taste is waiting for you on the top floor of the Guinness factory (and it comes ‘free’ with the entrance cost). Or, head to the famous Temple Bar area of the city. Although the place is usually heaving with tourists, it’s managed to retain its authentic Irish pub scene.

Ireland has a rich heritage in stouts, ales and porters, so next time you fly to Dublin, make sure that you branch out from your usual drink to try something a bit different. Ireland has a great history of brewing, and no trip across the Irish Sea is complete without sampling a few different brews.

Throw off the grill cover, add some fire, and throw on some food! The long, anticipated season of grilling brings food lovers together from all over. It’s no argument; mostly everything tastes better on the grill! Whether you prefer vegetables, a huge burger, or some seafood, everything has more taste when it’s got those brown, charred lines running down them.

Grilling also makes for the perfect spectator sport! Who doesn't love watching your meal bathe in flames and flavor right before your eyes?! If you want those flavors to be delicious ones though, there are some steps you need to take to keep your grill up to par! The food is only as good as the person cooking it, and the device cooking it. When it comes time to wow your guests with that steak, make sure it’s cooked right and doesn't taste like gas instead.

Maintenance

The maintenance that you need to put into your grill is minimal, making this a very simple relationship. No matter the type of grill, quality, or cost, you can be cooking for years to come with minimal upkeep. One of the best ways to keep your grill in lasting shape is by keeping it covered! Even if you live in a warm climate year round, investing in a gas grill cover is a smart way of protecting your grill from weather damage. If the grill becomes tampered, worn, or faded it may not work properly, leaving you with charred food, or nothing to cook on at all!

Cleaning Your Grill

Invest in a grill brush, because cleaning those grill grates is key in safety, maintenance, and delicious food! After you light it up, begin scrubbing at those grill grates to release old, stuck on foods and debris. A hot, large burning fire can help melt away some of that gunk and aide in the cleaning process. It doesn't take anything more than a little elbow grease to make sure you’re cooking on a clean and safe surface.

Some people use this next step to oil those same grill grates. Oiling the grates prevents food from sticking, and is all about a matter of preference. The key here is not to overindulge and cause a roaring grease fire. Less is more. A simple wipe with an oil-dampened paper towel will do the trick. This doesn't have to be done, but is a great option when cooking foods that don’t already have some oils to them.

It may seem silly, but once that delicious meal is all done and served up, you don’t want to clean those grates! Sure, you should take off any massive hunks of food that are left lying around, but leave that black, charred stuff intact. This actually helps protect your grill grates until the next use. While it should have its trusty grill cover on as it is, this little trick is just another way of making sure you get the most out of your food-making machine.

If you’re keeping it simpler and cooking with charcoal, the opposite is true after cooking. Take a good look at the pile of ash that’s accumulated in your grill, and clean it out! Charcoal ash that is left behind in your grill can attract moisture, and turn into a cement-like disaster that will ruin your grill.

After the heat has subsided, take your meat-filled belly over to the grill and dump the ashes out into a bucket or trash receptacle. You’ll be glad you did!

Maintaining your grill is less work than getting ready for your day! With a few cleaning and storage techniques, you’re guaranteed to have a grill that will cook for years. Show your BBQ machine a little extra TLC and enjoy all of its delicious benefits!

The truth is that in some way or form, we all love food. We love eating it, we love socializing around it having dinner with friends and family, we love watching people make food Iron Chef, Master Chef and all the other cooking and baking shows and we love the taste of it.

However, some food groups are better for you than other groups. For instance, while we all might love to live off chocolate, the truth is that chocolate has no nutritional value and will only cause your body to suffer. The trick is to eat a balanced diet. While a balanced diet does contain lean proteins, carbohydrates and vegetables, one of the biggest areas our diets lack is when it comes to fruit.

Here are five real reasons why you should be eating more fruits:

Fruit is low in sodium: Fruit is natural low in sodium and because it does not require additional seasoning salt or pepper, eating more fruit will help lower the overall sodium content in your diet. In fact, the more calories you get in from fruit, the less sodium-rich your diet will be. This in turn will help lower your blood pressure and keep your healthier.

Fruit is the best carbohydrate: The human body was designed to live off a diet consisting predominantly of carbohydrates. That is why countries such as Japan, Costa Rica and Hunzas are the best athletes in the world; they live primarily off rice, fruit and beans. Fruit is the best carbohydrate to eat, because it is alkaline forming (grains are slightly acid-forming, and animals foods are very high in acid-forming). Also, fruit is rich in vitamins, minerals and packed with nutrients.

Fruit is packed with antioxidants: Fruit is packed with cancer-fighting antioxidants. Almost all of the anti-aging compounds are found in fruits such as, blueberries, pomegranate juice and mangos to name a few. Furthermore, coloured fruits are almost always packed with healthy compounds, so next time you are in the shops, stick to the brightly coloured fruits.

Fruit keeps you lean: Fruit is the ideal weight loss food group. Just eat a large apple before any meal, you will fill up and it will prevent you from overeating at the dinner table. Fruit is filling because of its high fiber and water content, yet low in calories. Fruit, on average, contains around 500 calories per kilogram. On the other hand, bread contains, 2400, starches, 1000 and nuts around 5600. Only vegetables have a lower calorie density that fruit. This means that you can fill up on fruit and be certain to never get fat.

Fruit improves your skin: Research has shown that certain compounds of fruit and vegetables, like carotenoids, help the skin look more vibrant and beautiful. Once research study even showed that people whose diet are high in fruits and vegetables are considered more attractive because their skin carotenoids in fruit give their skin a healthy and natural tanned look. Just be sure to steer clear of eating excessively on carrots and tomatoes, as the two can turn your skin orange.

Fruit is sweet, refreshing and delicious. Ensure that you start eating more fruit and watch as it transforms your diet, skin and health.

The vegetarian diet has been around for a long time. Back in days of old, meat was considered a luxury and you were lucky if you got your hands on a couple of chunks of bone-dry mutton once every couple of weeks. Financial restraint ensured that diets mostly consisted of vegetables, usually thrown together in a pan and watered down to make a long lasting broth which was so thin that you could read your newspaper through it.

Yet, if we are going back that far there wouldn't have been much in terms of mass media and, as lowly peasantry, our reading abilities would have been pretty much non-existent, but I've made the analogy now and I'm sticking with it.

The Humble Berry Picker

Over the years farming techniques have improved and international trade routes have flourished to such an extent that we have access to more food (and more types of food) than ever before. Meat has become so cheap that we can afford to eat it every day of the week and often we do. We have this conception that we are built to ingest endless quantities of meat and have an image ingrained within our popular consciousness of the caveman ripping off hunks of meat from a drumstick of cartoonish proportions.

In reality, it has been shown that we largely sustained ourselves by foraging for berries, edible vegetation and the like. We hadn't honed farming techniques but still required a lot of energy from food for survival. If we had gotten all of this from animals then we would have quickly wiped out local wildlife populations leaving nothing for the following seasons, let alone for future generations. In fact, we ate meat with much less regularity than we do now, but the notion of the sensible, tactful and thrifty caveman plucking a little berry from a bush doesn't quite resonate with the notion of the mighty, club-wielding conqueror of beasts that we like to think of ourselves as emanating from.

Nowadays, with access to all the meat we could possibly want, meat lovers have taken consumption to the next level. We seem now to enjoy the many different kinds of meat every day of the week; often certain days of the week becoming known for a certain meat dish such as the Sunday roast. Even at the weekend when events play host to our appetites, we shudder at the thought of there not be a hog roast or selection of barbecued meats available to settle our stomachs.

In an era of such meat-based gluttony, it might be surprising to note the huge rise in vegetarianism and veganism. Apart from those avoiding meat on religious grounds, there have been two main groups that abstain, groups that often cross over. This is the dietary based abstainer and the ethically-consuming abstainer. I'm not going to go into ethics here, but there are some interesting ideas in terms of nutrition that the vegetarian question raises that are important to note; even for those of us who will never give up our morning fry-up or festival hog-roast. So should we be taking a high-in-nutrition and colon-cleansing leaf out of their book?

Time to Take Meat off its Pedestal

When somebody suggests that we don't require meat for a healthy, nutritionally-rich diet, people are fond of wheeling out the word 'omnivore'. They point to our sharp canines, the strong saliva in our mouths that breaks meat down and our digestive system, built to process the meat we put into it. Whilst our bodies are adept at consuming meat and thriving off it, they are also perfectly adept at thriving without it. Naysayers will cite the fact that meat contains precious protein that makes us strong and gives us the energy we need to function and to lead full, busy lives.

This is all true, but these voices are guilty of overstating the importance of meat's contribution to our nutrition. We can get protein from vegetables, pulses and grains just as easily. In fact it is suggested that thanks to the over-abundance and popularity of meat, many of us are eating between two and six times the amount we should be, which is especially bad as eating too much protein can be as bad as eating too little. It has been linked to kidney problems, widespread obesity, osteoporosis and diabetes. The importance we place on meat also often means we overlook the other aspects of our diet that are important, such as crucial vegetables and a sensible intake of fat.

This brings us to another facet of the vegetarian diet, namely its variety. Because meat which is traditionally the centre-piece of the meal is not present, vegetarians often put their efforts into creating exciting, tasty food where ingredients are mixed in such a way that allows them to shine, rather than just being thrown onto a plate in an uncreative and boring manner to play second fiddle to the much worshipped, but sometimes mediocre, piece of meat. This extra attention to all fare that isn't meat invariably leads vegetarians to experience cuisine to a high standard.

Their ingredients are many and their lack of reliance on meat leads them to greater experimentation (often with foreign foods) so they end up eating a greatly varied diet that is as rich in nutritional value as it is in taste. Ask anyone who has eaten a truly delicious lentil dhal or mushroom and nut Wellington with cranberry and broccoli; they will tell you that they didn't even notice the lack of meat or that the dish didn't need it and that because they weren't stuffed full of steak, they had more room for the hugely tasty and massively nutritious meal in front of them.

So whereas you might find it impossible to say no to meat altogether, it is perhaps worth taking a look at the importance you place on meat in your diet and whether taking a leaf out of the veggie's book every now and then might lead you to a more fulfilling culinary life and a healthier diet.
Here Are Some Cool Unconventional Cake Ideas

The standard multi-tiered white iced fruit cake with the little bride and groom on top is not for everyone. For one thing, not everybody likes fruit cake, but also the traditional reason for choosing it (it keeps for a really long time, and couples can save the top tier for their first baby's Christening) doesn't fit with a lot of modern couples who perhaps already have children, aren't planning to have children, wouldn't be planning to have a Christening for their baby anyway, or simply don't want to eat some really old cake.

The traditional wedding cake decoration style with the couple represented as figurines on top can also feel a bit dated to some, and doesn't necessarily look right with a more casual wedding or a wedding with a theme. If the bride walked down the aisle in black at her heavy metal themed wedding, that little bride in the white gown on the cake is just going to look like she doesn't belong!

If you are planning your wedding and want to have a wedding cake, but want something a little bit different, here are some interesting ideas:

Alternatives to Fruit Cake

If you don't like fruit cake, then simply think about what you do like! If you like red velvet cake, then consider that. Chocolate fudge? No reason why not. It is your wedding and as long as you both are happy with it, everybody else will be too – there are few types of cake nobody likes after all. If you want to choose something different like this as the “inside” of your cake, then there is still no reason why it can't be iced to look like a standard wedding cake, in fact the effect can be quite stunning when you take a slice out of an elegant looking, carefully decorated white wedding cake and inside is a bright fruit filling, or a marbled chocolate cake!

Some couples don't really like cake at all, and if you're not the sweet toothed type there are some fun ways you can keep the “centrepiece” feel of a wedding cake with a completely different type of food. Wedding cakes made of cheese (not cheesecakes, but actual wheels of cheese set up to look like a tiered cake) are becoming popular, and can be enjoyed with wafers and grapes like a normal cheeseboard. Displays of fruit can also look great, especially for a summer wedding or a wedding in a tropical location.

Alternative Decoration for Wedding Cakes

As with birthday cakes, the sky is basically the limit in terms of what a talented cake decorator can create. If you have an idea for something really spectacular, perhaps to fit with the theme or mood of your wedding or to represent something you both love, or how you met, then if you have the budget you should have no problem finding someone who can make it. A wedding cake that really stands out and suits the couple and the event can look like a complete work of art (although then people do feel a bit bad about cutting it up and eating it!).

If you don't want to go all out on the cake, however, there are simple ways to make even a plain supermarket bought wedding cake your own with decorations. Going back to those little figurines, many couples now choose to have alternative figures representing them on top of the cake. This can be something simple, like two of the same traditional bride or groom figures for a same sex wedding, or something outlandish – there is actually a huge range of different Lego people that are bought specifically for this purpose, so if you want to have Princess Leia marrying Doctor Who on top of your cake, there's nothing to stop you doing it!
