Bar hopping. What is that anyway? Well it’s when you "hop" from bar to bar within a given night, or day depending on the person. Sounds easy, but like everything, there is a technique that can prove to make your casual time a better experience.
LOCATION, LOCATION
Pick a spot in town that has a decent conglomerate of bars, preferably ones that are in walking distance of each other. Eliminating the travel time will make the experience more lively and friends won’t have to deal with splitting up and then meeting back together later. Think of all the important un-broken conversation! This is also a great way to prevent losing stragglers and keep the party going. Also, staying within a certain bar parameter will also keep you and other drinkers off the road. Stick to the bars closest to your home and maybe set up a game plan, to visit the farthest bar first and work your way back throughout the night.
FAVORITE FLAVORS
It’s always a pleasure to have your pocket of favorite bars. Knowing bar menus is a great way to keep the energy going and save your precious dollars. Having a knack for what the specials are can feel really good the next day when dollars fall out of your wallet and not moths. Plus getting to know your bartenders is great for hook-ups and an overall friendly feel when you walk in. Being a part of a local bar always creates a mood that is more relaxed and exciting because you can be yourself in an atmosphere that caters to the night chill-ax.
CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE
Doing a slight bit of planning doesn’t hurt. Perhaps its a night that is all about beer tastings. Jumping from brew to brew can be a great way to experience local and national flavors. Maybe its and elegant hopping experience with wine. Then there could be “Whiskey Wednesday” to satisfy the acquired taste of different liquors around town.
Keep in mind what bars have to offer other than drink. Pinball jaunts are a good idea. This will help specify the tally of grog handlers to deliver the game. Maybe it’s ping pong? Shuffleboard or pool? Creating Friday night tourneys can be a lot of fun. Sports could be your method of choice as well. One game here, then another game there.
Beer Basketball or Tequila Tennis?
THEMES
Lastly, there cannot be a discussion about bar hopping without a touch on themes. Yes, people dressing up as Santa Claus and terrorizing the local pubs is a real thing. It is also a great bar hop idea. What better excuse to show off your creative demeanor than to have multiple destinations be your guide? Check your local meet ups. Look for the Santa Claus crew, Pirate party, or Furry Friend extravaganza. Or better yet, make up a theme yourself! Egyptian Tuesday, Cowboy Thursday or the great ninja surprise to name a few.
