Most of us don’t take the time to eat breakfast. Maybe we’re not hungry that early in the morning, or maybe we just don’t have the time to sit down and eat a great meal before we head out to start our day.

You've heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and not eating breakfast can have many negative effects. So why should you take the time to eat breakfast?

It will keep you energized

Most of us skip breakfast because we would rather sleep in a little longer, but you will actually be more energized if you eat breakfast. Breakfast will recharge your brain and put you in the right mood to accomplish your goals, and it will help to keep your energy levels up throughout the day.

It will keep you thin

Some people believe that not eating breakfast is an easy way to eliminate the intake of calories and shed some weight, but studies by the American Heart Association have shown that not eating breakfast has been linked to weight gain. People who don’t eat breakfast have the wrong mentality about weight control and healthy eating, and these individuals are more likely to overindulge on calories during other meals throughout the day. In fact, studies have found that people who skip breakfast tend to consume 100 more calories per day than those that eat breakfast.

It starts your day off right.

When you eat a nutritious breakfast in the morning, your body will be fuller throughout the day, allowing you to last until your morning snack or until lunch. Because of this, you will be less likely to snack on junk food throughout the day because you will not be tempted. Plus, if you eat something wholesome, such as fruit, you will be more tempted to choose a healthier snack when you’re hungry later in the day.

It can help your cholesterol

Studies have shown that individuals that eat breakfast have better cholesterol levels than those individuals that skip breakfast. Since high cholesterol can lead to many health problems, including heart disease, you want to make sure that you keep your cholesterol levels as low as possible.

It can improve memory

Foods that are high in energy, such as whole grains, dairy products, eggs and nuts,  can help improve your short-term memory, and this can be extremely beneficial for anyone that may be taking a test or simply in need of a memory boost.

It sets a good example

You want your children to grow up to be healthy and make healthy decisions, so providing them with breakfast every morning is a great way to get them in the habit on their own. This way, your child will learn at an early age that breakfast is important and will be less likely to skip the meal altogether as they get older.

Keep in mind that your younger children tend to mimic what you do, so make sure that they also see you eating breakfast regularly.
