Should a martini be shaken or stirred? If you don’t hang around bars much and happen to order the martini, then you may have heard the barkeep ask you this obligatory query. The great debate about martini has perplexed the modern man so much that some of them has resorted to drinking chocolate or milk-flavored cocktails. Some men beg to differ.
It doesn’t take a genius nor to concoct a martini at home. If you don’t have a Learn2Serve Alcohol Certification, you can still enjoy a martini as what’s summarized below based on an article from Art of Manliness. But first make sure to round up the following items:
- Ice
- Chilled cocktail glasses
- Cold Gin
- Cold Vermouth
- Chilled glass pitcher or metal shaker
Shake it up!
1. Take the vermouth out of the fridge. Pour some vermouth into the bottle cap.
2. Put a handful of ice cubes into either a glass pitcher or metal shaker—dealer’s choice! Pour in the vermouth over the ice. Give it a quick swirl.
3. Now pour in two shots (three ounces at most) of gin. If you’ve chosen to use a glass pitcher then stir it in. If you’re using a metal vessel then swirl. Note that you don’t have to swirl the container hard.
4. Let the drink rest for a while. In the meantime, put your stuff away. After about a minute, swirl the drink some more.
5. Set it aside again and prepare some chow if you feel like it. Swirl the drink again.
6. Take out a toothpick and stick it in two olives. Swirl the drink again.
7. Congratulations! Your martini is good to go. Transfer it into a martini glass and dunk the olives in it. You may want to take the ice cubes out before drinking the martini so it won’t be overly diluted.
This martini will put every amateur waiter and novice drinker to shame. Put on some music if you will and enjoy every sip of this relaxing beverage.
