Everyone loves a good sporting event, and getting the party started early with a tailgate party only increases the fun. Tailgate parties are a great way to get your family and friends excited about the big game coming up. And with a little bit of preparation and organization, it doesn’t have to be difficult to pull off a great tailgate party.  Use the following steps to ensure that you are prepared and ready for a tailgate party that will go down in history.

1. Plan The Food

Most people will agree that the best part of a tailgate party is the food. A party with great food helps to set the tone for the big game, and gives everyone a chance to get their stomachs full so they can focus on the main event. Plan foods that can both be cooked and transported, or those that are easy to eat as picnic foods. Traditional tailgate party foods include things like hamburgers, hot dogs, potato chips and other things you would typically eat at a barbecue. Bring a portable grill to cook your meat and don’t forget the condiments. Have each guest bring their favorite salad or dessert to share with everyone to ensure that everyone s involved.

Along with the food, don’t forget the eating utensils. Paper plates, napkins, utensils and cups are a must. Along with these things, remember to pack some garbage bags to handle all the trash after your party. A quick cleanup means you get to the game faster.

You’ll also want to have an ice chest full of drinks. If your friends drink alcohol, keep the cooler stocked with beer. Remember to provide non-alcoholic drinks for those who don’t or can’t drink. Or simply supply the chest with pop cans in all different types. A good tailgate party has a good supply of drinks for everyone.

2. Decorate Your Vehicle

Take some time to decorate your truck and tailgate trailer with things that show your love for your favorite team. Your vehicle will act as the venue for the tailgate party, so decorate it like it is. Hang pennants and flags for your favorite team. Consider putting a flag on your antennae so your friends can find you in the parking lot. The more you decorate, the better you’ll look, so don’t be afraid to go overboard.

3. Plan Your Wardrobe

Along with decorating your vehicle, you can show support for your favorite team by putting on every article of clothing you have with the team logo or insignia on it. This is a great time to go overboard and really show your support. It’s great to see the stands filled with the colors of the home team, so the more items you have, the more you contribute to that. Don’t be afraid to show your support, even if it’s not for the popular team. Part of a successful tailgate party and sporting event is being able to show your love for any team, whether popular and winning or not.

4. Pack The Extra Items

Is it going to be cold at your tailgate party? If so, pack some extra blankets and jackets if you have them. Chances are good that some of your guests will forget something and need to borrow it. You will also want to pack extra folding chairs or lawn chairs for your guests to use during your tailgate party.  It’s tough to eat while standing up, and bringing chairs encourages everyone to relax and stay awhile.  The more comfortable your guests are, the more successful your party will be.

You will also want to bring a portable radio to tune into the game so you can hear the pregame interviews and shows. This gives everyone a chance to get pumped up and in the mood for the game.  You won’t feel like you’re missing out on a thing when you come prepared with the right equipment.
When you come prepared, your tailgate party can be a great way for friends to gather around, eat a meal, visit together, and get pumped for the big game.

It doesn’t have to be a stressful event if everyone gets involved and you allow others to help with the food. The next time you are planning a tailgate party, use this information to ensure that it is a success. A successful tailgate party will be a relaxing and fun prelude to an exciting game in every situation.
