It is that time of year again; Christmas songs playing in every shop, decorations going up, excitable children with endless Christmas lists and carol singers at the door but despite Christmas being many peoples favourite time of the year there is no doubting that it can also be a stressful time.
There is a lot of organising to be done from visiting family and friends to having visitors, preparing dinner and buying gifts. Sometimes buying gifts can be easy if you are lucky enough to know exactly what someone wants but there is always one or two that can be very hard to buy for.
One suggestion for you this year is a nice bottle of whisky. If your intended gift recipient is a whisky drinker you know the present will be appreciated and not wasted but how do you know what whisky to buy?
With such a large choice it can be tricky to select one so finding out the persons favourite whiskies can help you to either choose one of those or select one that they might like to try.
We will show you 5 great choices of Scotch whisky below and cover different budgets so you can give someone the gift they actually want this year.
Springbank 1919 - 50 Year Old
At the top end of the budget at £50,000.00 is the 50 year old Springbank 1919. If you happen to be lucky enough you can buy one of the rarest malts ever created. With only 24 bottles of this whisky bottled in 1970 this is not only a whisky but a piece of history and could actually be an investment.
Bottled in 2013 you will know that they won’t have had this as a Christmas gift before and is a great option for the whisky connoisseur in your life. Priced at £345.00 the whisky was aged in port casks for its 23 years and with notes of spices and winter fruits it is the ideal Christmas whisky.
Auchentoshan 1997 – 15 Year Old – Old Particular
This 1997 vintage comes from the only distillery in Scotland to triple distil every single drop of whisky that they produce. This is a great lowland single malt scotch whisky at a very reasonable £55.00.
Arran Robert Burns
This is a great gift for any fans of whisky and the legendary Scottish Bard, Robert Burns. This single malt scotch offers a spicy twist on the finish and is a great choice at around £30.00.
Highland Black 8 Year Old Scotch
If you are shopping on a budget this year, one whisky that offers unbeatable value and recently received a gold medal at the International Wine and Sprits Competition is the Highland Black. Available for an incredible £12.99 from budget supermarket Aldi this whisky has proven itself at the very top.
Of course there is a world of whisky to explore with extremely popular Irish brands as well as more exotic international brands but this might help you narrow down your choices and give someone a very merry Christmas.
