The truth is that in some way or form, we all love food. We love eating it, we love socializing around it having dinner with friends and family, we love watching people make food Iron Chef, Master Chef and all the other cooking and baking shows and we love the taste of it.

However, some food groups are better for you than other groups. For instance, while we all might love to live off chocolate, the truth is that chocolate has no nutritional value and will only cause your body to suffer. The trick is to eat a balanced diet. While a balanced diet does contain lean proteins, carbohydrates and vegetables, one of the biggest areas our diets lack is when it comes to fruit.

Here are five real reasons why you should be eating more fruits:

Fruit is low in sodium: Fruit is natural low in sodium and because it does not require additional seasoning salt or pepper, eating more fruit will help lower the overall sodium content in your diet. In fact, the more calories you get in from fruit, the less sodium-rich your diet will be. This in turn will help lower your blood pressure and keep your healthier.

Fruit is the best carbohydrate: The human body was designed to live off a diet consisting predominantly of carbohydrates. That is why countries such as Japan, Costa Rica and Hunzas are the best athletes in the world; they live primarily off rice, fruit and beans. Fruit is the best carbohydrate to eat, because it is alkaline forming (grains are slightly acid-forming, and animals foods are very high in acid-forming). Also, fruit is rich in vitamins, minerals and packed with nutrients.

Fruit is packed with antioxidants: Fruit is packed with cancer-fighting antioxidants. Almost all of the anti-aging compounds are found in fruits such as, blueberries, pomegranate juice and mangos to name a few. Furthermore, coloured fruits are almost always packed with healthy compounds, so next time you are in the shops, stick to the brightly coloured fruits.

Fruit keeps you lean: Fruit is the ideal weight loss food group. Just eat a large apple before any meal, you will fill up and it will prevent you from overeating at the dinner table. Fruit is filling because of its high fiber and water content, yet low in calories. Fruit, on average, contains around 500 calories per kilogram. On the other hand, bread contains, 2400, starches, 1000 and nuts around 5600. Only vegetables have a lower calorie density that fruit. This means that you can fill up on fruit and be certain to never get fat.

Fruit improves your skin: Research has shown that certain compounds of fruit and vegetables, like carotenoids, help the skin look more vibrant and beautiful. Once research study even showed that people whose diet are high in fruits and vegetables are considered more attractive because their skin carotenoids in fruit give their skin a healthy and natural tanned look. Just be sure to steer clear of eating excessively on carrots and tomatoes, as the two can turn your skin orange.

Fruit is sweet, refreshing and delicious. Ensure that you start eating more fruit and watch as it transforms your diet, skin and health.
