With all the excesses you’ve indulged in over the holiday season (alcohol and food included), your body, energy levels and weight loss may be feeling a little sluggish.

And it is no surprise, as your body has been overwhelmed by an array of toxins which may be inhibiting your mood and digestion.

Now if this sounds like you, then a detox could be the solution you are looking for.

Helping to free your body from harmful toxins, embark on a healthy 3 day detox and this can help to rejuvenate your body, improve your concentration, boost your energy levels, digestive system and mood, and ultimately put you in a better position to lose weight.

How Can I Detox Healthily?

A common misconception about detoxes is that they can provide you with a permanent dietary solution. This is false.

Detoxes are solely designed to revitalise your body, and help you to regain control of your eating habits and your diet. They should not be done for any longer than 3 days as long term they will deprive your body of essential nutrients.

To get you started you should aim to choose from the following foods and eat them at 3 hourly intervals, 5 times a day:
  • Fruits and Vegetables – green vegetables are a must, so try to eat artichokes, spinach, green beans and lettuce. At the same time it is important that you have tomatoes, pineapple, papaya, oranges, apples, grapes and tangerines.
  • Carbohydrates (with Fibre) – opt for wholemeal cereals and bread, brown rice, wholemeal pasta and soya beans.
  • Vegetable Protein – during a detox it is important that you steer clear of animal proteins and eat more soya, tofu, pulses and legumes.
  • Drink Plenty of Fluids – water, herbal teas and juices are best.

At the same time, it is vital that you exclude the following foods from your detox:
  • Fatty animal protein – shellfish, oily fish, dairy products
  • Butter and other animal fats
  • Avoid refined sugar, white flour and any processed or pre-cooked foods
  • Alcohol, coffee and cigarettes

How Else Can I Boost My Weight Loss?

You’ve done your detox, you’re feeling more energetic and motivated – so what should you do next?

Put into place a healthy eating plan containing all your major food groups (40% carbohydrates, 30% proteins and 30% fats and other nutrients) and exercise 3-4 times a week for 30 minutes.

But this is not all…

You can also try using the following tips:
  • Try a weight loss supplement – slimming pills are particularly useful if you need help jump starting your weight loss. A dietary blend of l-carnitine, LongJack Tongkat Ali and a number of other cyclic AMP enzyme boosters which have been proven to aid in the release of stored body fat as well as boost your metabolism, and your internal appetite suppressant and fat burner.
  • Eat little and often – you can continue this habit of eating little and often from your detox by splitting your meals in five 300 calorie portions. By eating regularly, you can prevent the urge to snack and keep your metabolism running at optimum speeds.
  • Ask yourself if you are hungry – we often mistake thirst for hunger so before you indulge in a snack, first drink half a glass of water and wait 15 minutes. If after 15 minutes you still feel hungry, then have a healthy snack.
  • Don’t try to change too much, too fast – cutting out all your favourite sugary/high calorie foods overnight isn’t always the wisest decision as this can trigger unwanted cravings. Instead aim to reduce the number of times you eat them per week until you only have them once a month. At the same time, try swapping them for a low calorie, low fat alternative.
  • Be mindful of how you cook – the way you cook your foods can make a drastic difference to your calorie count. For instance, grilling/boiling your meats and vegetables is a lot healthier than frying. So where you can, pick a healthier way to cook your foods, and cut your calorie intake in an instant.
